Dear Friend,

Welcome to the website of Moncreiff Parish Church. We are delighted that you have dropped in to visit us and hope you will find something of interest to you.

As the local Church of Scotland congregation in the Calderwood area of East Kilbride, we have been proud to serve Jesus among our neighbours for nearly 60 years. Before that, Moncreiff had existed as a church in the village of East Kilbride since 1843 and rose to the challenge of moving onto its present site when the village became a new town which was built to facilitate new enterprise.

This brought a time of huge expansion and change. In those years of the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, thousands of people moved to East Kilbride to begin a new chapter of their lives. Moncreiff flourished in these early years of the new town and became the hub of a great deal of activities. Lots of people benefitted from belonging to the church family and they still look back with pride remembering the many happy associations they made.

Nowadays we are still a lively and vibrant church and although our age profile on the whole is much higher than  it was in the 50’s and 60’s, we still believe we have a lot to offer the community in which we serve.  As a result of  much thought, prayer and discussion we have decided therefore to rebuild a new facility on the site of the existing church sanctuary which will be more accessible, sustainable, flexible and usable than the present building. It will provide a new hub for the community with a café area, new meeting rooms and activity areas and an adaptable sanctuary space which can also be used by groups during the week.

This new initiative, we hope and pray, will provide fresh impetus, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to the life of our church. Already we have a sizable core group of families with young children who belong to our church and we would like to encourage more people, of all ages to come and share in the sense of worship, welcome and fellowship which already exits.

People in our congregation have made a generous financial commitment by making pledges to support the building of this new facility and by their faith are reaching out to their neighbours in a friendly, supportive and caring way. Perhaps you would like to support us too! Maybe you belonged to our church family in the past and moved on to pastures new? Hundreds of people remember the good times they had in Sunday school and uniformed organisations here. The fine example set of encouragement and faith expressed in acts of kindness and goodness which was shown by leaders in this congregation has had a positive effect on many who are grateful.

Some have mentioned that they would like to support this new venture and if you feel moved to help by giving your support too, we would be very thankful. Further information can be found by clicking here Already we have set up the Moncreiff Development Fund and currently people are paying into it by standing order and one off payments by cash or cheque so that we can begin to realise the vision and also appeal to outside funders for help and support. Legacies are most welcome too, so please remember us in this way, if you can and leave something of benefit for future generations to enjoy.

You can get in touch with us through this website or by personal contact through the phone numbers provided or by letter or card. We always like to hear how people are getting on and also welcome any articles for our church magazine which we produce quarterly and is also reproduced on this website.

Finally, if you have any other suggestions or comments to make, we would be glad to hear from you. We are serving Jesus together in our own ways, wherever God has placed us and we belong to the same family of faith, whatever branch of the church we belong to, so thank you for visiting us here and feel free to pop in on us physically, any time, if you are ever in the area.

Yours in Christ,
Neil Buchanan.
