Welcome to Moncreiff Parish Church in East Kilbride.

Welcome to our website.
We hope you will find something of interest here.

Welcome to the website of Moncreiff Parish Church

I am Kevin de Beer, currently serving as the interim moderator at Moncreiff Parish Church, and it is my privilege to share a few words regarding our life together as a church gathering for worship in Calderwood, East Kilbride.

We are part of the wider witness that is the Church of Scotland and are currently in vacancy. A period of vacancy offers us an opportunity to engage in a prayerful process as to who our next minister might be. It also offers us an opportunity to intentionally share our ongoing ministry as those who gather to worship God and witness to God’s saving love revealed in Jesus Christ. It is my hope that as you scroll through our website or visit our Facebook page you will gain a sense of a vibrant and active church. If you are in the Calderwood area it would be wonderful to have you visit with us and the details as to how to find us as well as our various ministries are readily available on the website.

One of the privileges of being ‘in vacancy’ is working on our parish profile and we would be delighted if you would read through it. The profile will give you a real sense of our hopes and dreams regarding ministry. If you happen to be a minister within the Church of Scotland then we are also hopeful that you would prayerfully consider whether God might be calling you to serve as our minister of Word and Sacrament.

It was when we were working on our parish profile (an exciting process that included 30 leaders sharing their experience and expectations of our life together) that an elder proposed the use of an acrostic to offer a bird’s eye view of who we are.

It is a real privilege to share that acrostic with you and we hope that you would read through the rest of the website as well as the parish profile to get a better understanding and appreciation of our shared worshipping and witnessing life.

We are simply Moncreiff...

Moncreiff Parish Church serves the Calderwood area of East Kilbride and has a very active and welcoming congregation which reflects the wide range of people who live here.
Our history goes back further than many people expect of a new town church. Originally from the village, the congregation were asked to move out to Calderwood in order to welcome the many families who were arriving here in the late 1950's.
In those days the congregation expanded massively and the new church buildings were soon found to be insufficient to accommodate the needs of everyone, especially on a Sunday. The children of the church along with their Sunday School teachers found space in local schools but this was less than ideal for obvious reasons. Not only did it lead to a level of detachment in the satellite schools, I imagine that it felt to some children that they had to go an extra day to school and were never away from the place!
Eventually the suite of buildings at the main site grew to include extra rooms and a super large hall which has been well used for many years. We have been blessed in so many ways by the generosity of the people who   have belonged to the congregation who have responded to so many challenges in faith and love.
Nowadays we face fresh challenges such as addressing how we will respond to the needs of a new generation of people who have moved here in recent years. Obviously things have changed a lot in 57 years.
Naturally our congregation is much smaller now, our suite of buildings has aged and we live in times where many families consider that belonging to the church is no longer a necessity.
We believe however that our church and our faith still have a lot to offer in this day and generation where life has become complicated and difficult for some and confusing for others. We realise that we need to change so that we can become more open and accommodating and are eager to involve local people in the process of discerning what we should become and in what direction we should go as a congregation of God's people here.
We know that He has work for us to do still and that He is guiding us to open our minds and our hearts to a future full of possibilities.
Perhaps you would be interested in getting involved in helping us to move forward in faith? We would be delighted to hear from you or see you at church. Maybe you used to be part of this church or another church?
Were you one of the thousands of children or young people who used to be involved in the Sunday School or Youth organisations? We would be delighted to hear from you and to share in your memories!
As the Minister here, I am delighted and proud that we have so many good and able Christian people in our congregation who do so much that is good in the church and in the community. We always have room for more and hope that you might come and join us?
Yours in Christ
Neil Buchanan
