About the Girls' Brigade Scotland

Girls' Brigade is a worldwide Christian organization for girls and young women. The Girls' Brigade in Scotland is autonomous as are all the other members of our international family.

We are committed to offering girls a safe, secure environment where they are supervised by adult leaders who work within a Christian framework and have undertaken an Enhanced Disclosure check. Our members are of paramount importance to us and each girl is encouraged to participate in a wide variety of age appropriate activities with a view to enhancing their personal and social development at their own pace.

Girls' Brigade works within local communities to offer a four sided program of informal education that mirrors the Curriculum for Excellence as offered in Scottish schools. It is our belief that every girl has talents to share and skills to develop and that we can provide many opportunities for this in an informal setting. We are committed to offering older members the opportunity to undertake leadership training and service to others is key to what we do in all age groups.

At Girls' Brigade it is our intention to help girls of today become capable, confident citizens of the 21st century.

THE THREE PRINCIPLES

1. The Girls' Brigade has three founding principles:

2. The Brigade acknowledges Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord according to the Scriptures and seeks to fulfill its aim to the glory of one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit

3. The Brigade witnesses to the standard set by Jesus Christ and gives positive teaching on the Christian attitude to life

The Brigade promotes a just society where all people are equally valued.

THE MOTTO

"Seek, Serve and Follow Christ"

THE AIM

"To help girls become followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, and through self control, reverence and a sense of responsibility to find true enrichment of life"

All girls have successfully completed the Commonwealth Badge work and have enjoyed taking
part in a number of sports as well as learning about different countries within the Commonwealth. It has enthused them and they are now looking forward to the Games in Glasgow.

We will be having a well-earned break during the two weeks of the Easter school holidays then
it'll be all systems go preparing for our display on Tuesday 6 May. Prior to that, we are off to
camp at the Broomlee Outdoor Centre in West Linton when the girls will take part in an exciting programme of activities. They get cold, wet, muddy and tired but thoroughly enjoy themselves so we're hoping for more of the same this year.

The 1st East Kilbride Company of the Girls' Brigade is seeking new leadership and to date have been unsuccessful in finding anyone from their own church (West Kirk). The current situation will leave the company with one recently Commissioned young officer and a couple of adult helpers. The company meet on a Wednesday night and would welcome anyone interested in helping. Please contact me if you would like more information.

I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the Girls' Brigade Scotland's holiday lodges.Tayview Lodges are situated at Guay, near Ballinluig in beautiful Perthshire. A few minutes's drive from the Guay turn off on the A9 leads you to the lodges which are set in lush green countryside with stunning views where you can enjoy nature at its best in peaceful surroundings.

The Centre is owned by The Girls' Brigade in Scotland and was opened in September 2011. GB
members use the lodges for a variety of purposes but are keen to welcome other youth groups
and the general public to use the facilities.
